More BBC News cuts

Post by Bic Basher » Thu Jul 17, 2014 1:07 pm

As part of the Delivering Quality First cuts, which has already seen the introduction of regional weather hubs, more cuts to BBC News are on their way, these include:

The dedicated 8pm BBC One news presenters axed. Ellie Crisell and Riz Lateef will be replaced either by somebody from the News Channel, 60 Seconds or the 6pm or 10pm BBC1 presenter. Riz will continue on BBC London though.

BBC News Channel and BBC World News will simulcast between 8-9pm, in addition to 1-6am.

Solo presenters on the BBC News Channel. Some presenters will either leave or move to BBC World News. Bad news if you like watching Sophie etc.

Victoria Derbyshire will present a new lunchtime programme on the News Channel.

After the way Matthew Amroliwala just grilled the boss on the News channel, he will be first out the door.

Which Sophie you talking about Mart?

Matthew's already been demoted to BBC World News later this year. I mean Sophie Long Gaz.

It's likely the new schedule will be something along the lines of:

6am-8.30am: Breakfast (As BBC One)
8.30-12: Simon McCoy
12-1: Victoria Derbyshire
1-1.30: BBC News at One
1.30-45: Sportsday
1.45-6pm: Jane Hill (BBC News at 5 with Huw Edwards axed)
6-6.30: BBC News at 6
6.30-45: Sportsday
6.45-8: TBC
8-9: International Newshour (Simulcast with BBC World News)
9-12.30: Clive Myrie or Martine Croxall (Inc. The Papers and Sportsday)
12.30: Hardtalk
1-1.30: Newsday (As BBC World news)
1.30-2: ABC World News
2-5am: Mike Embley (As BBC World, including Sport Today)
5-6am: World Business Today (As BBC World)

They guy on today, the boss, dont know his name, seemed to imply it was all production staff and not presenters.

There is huge waste at the BBC, they have, for example, a reporter following the baton relay for the news channel, then they have ANOTHER reporter covering the same for the 1pm news. Also, why do they need a different presenter for 1pm news? Makes sense to use the ones on the news channel for that half hour. They also have presenters who you dont see for weeks, then they pop up, like Rachel Schofield.

They should ditch the big earners like Raworth and Bruce and tax dodging Gosling. Things may all change though, when they go on strike during the Commonwealth Games.

According to Neil Midgley from Forbes, 5 presenter posts will go from the News Channel.

I only recently discovered that Gosling is married to the director of communications at Downing Street.

By the sounds of it then from the majority being axed would affect quite a few female presenters. There are only a few presenters would are untouchable Raworth, Bruce, Gosling and Hill... And judging by the Daily Mail (not that you can trust much of what they say) there could also be a massive Regional Weather Presenter cull too.

Judging on the fact that they send her out to report on location, it seems Sophie will be safe. If they are only axing 5, thats pretty easy to do, Fiona Armstrong, Rachel Schofield and Rebecca Jones are hardly ever on, yet get paid, so they could easily go, as for the men, I don't really pay much attention to them so dont know who they could axe from them, but Id say it would be just as easy to get rid of a few.

As for the weather, I dont see why they cant use one National report for the whole of the BBC regions.

I think it'll somehow involve the cull of Susan Powell, Nina Ridge, Sarah Keith Lucas and the olive skinned woman (can't think of her name but she's rarely on).

If the BBC are making cuts, why are presenters I have never seen before, popping up on the news channel? The guy on now popped up last week for the first time and there is a guy on the early business hour who is also new.

Unless a lot of the female presenters are being axed as I am noticing a lot of men like you said seem to be on screen more often whether it's the reading the news or weather report... That must have something to do with all the female top brass in charge.

Looks like some changes have occurred, McVeigh has disappeared, as has Gosling, Maitlis is back on the news channel and Sophie Long has gone, she doesn't even do the 90 second update.

Carole Walker gets a slot, sweet jesus, how did she manage that?

Walker probably got the "Miriam O'Reilly" slot, she actually looks quite a bit older than she is.

Is Gosling still married to Cameron's Director of Communications? I know they are supposed to have split up but could the election have anything to do with it? Lynda Bryans career was effectively finished when UTV were forced to take her off air when her husband ran in 2010.

La McVeigh is back on the News Channel this morning - presumably after some post-Christmas leave.

More changes are on their way when Victoria Derbyshire starts. It's believed she'll be presenting from 0915-1100 with Breakfast being extended to 0915 on the News Channel.

I love the story in the papers the other week about how they paid redundancy to loads of staff they laid off, then re hired them!

Happens all the time in local government, drop staff to reduce the staffing budget, then re-hire them as Consultants, at higher wages, but paid through project funding budgets...

Sods law, I didn't bother recording it tonight as it wasn't her last night.

Its beyond comprehension how some are now on news channel constantly, others esp Sophie are not on it at all. The Walker woman is about as interesting as watching paint dry.
