American Football

Post by 1320abbey » Sat Feb 05, 2011 9:01 pm

Anybody watching the Superbowl tommorrow? As a Chicago bears fan I hope Pittsburgh beat Green Bay. Could be a close one though.

Most certainly. I'm a big fan of the Steelers and will be wearing my Terry Bradshaw shirt and clutching my Terrible Towel throughout.

Should be one of the better SBs as the Packers have been outstanding for most of the season and I expect no more than a four point margin either way.

Steelers all the way. Mate I am a die hard Steelers fan. Can't wait to see them do 7 SB titles, the only team in NFL history to do it. Got my terrible towel ready, already drank 2 red bulls and drinking another 2 later dont wanna miss this game. Big Ben and many other going for a 3rd SB ring. Ben will put himself in the likes of Aikman, Brady, Montanna etc etc if he gets a third SB title.

I think it will be a game for both defences, but I'd like to see the Steelers offence put this game well away from the Packers, but as zuma said it will be a tight game. Go Steelers!!!!!

What a bloody dumb game! 5 hour long show for 60 minutes of actual play, its decent enough when they are actually playing, but all the stopping and starting gets on your tits!

With you on that, liltman.

Seventh Heaven will just have to wait until next year (assuming the CBA problem is sorted).

From a neutral great game, Packers just edged it.
Next year the Pats will win.

The first game I saw was back in 1983 on C4, Redskins at the Packers, which the Packers won 49 - 48 and Mark Moseley missed a game winning field goal as time expired. I have followed the Redskins ever since as I could not follow a team who play in green and gold, reminds me of the Aussie's.

Well done Green Bay and one of the most enjoyable Superbowls in a long time, even Aguilera fluffing the national anthem added to the fun and the Black Eyed Peas adding to the half time entertainment. Watched it at the local and got home just after 4am.

My first exposure to American football was watching a Three Stooges 'comedy' short on TV and asking my Dad why they weren't playing proper football. Later on, ITV's World of Sport showed about twenty minutes of Super Bowl IX highlights and I realised just how compelling the sport could be. That was it, I was a Steeler.

I remember the World of Sport coverage as well Zuma and have been a fan of the game since Nicky Horne's C4 programme began. One of the early games featured the Bears and the great Walter Payton, I've been a Bears fan since.

Whenever I hear 'Two Tribes' by Frankie Goes to Hollywood I am instantly transported to Sunday evening, sitting in my pajamas, wondering in awe at what all this 'American Football' was while my mum did the ironing in the kitchen!?! I even did a school project on it when I was 8 --the highpoint of my academic career.

Here are a couple of nice Youtube clips of the old opening title sequences, remember the old Channel Four logo that snorted out air just before the programme started?? Ahaha...and poor old terrible-but-nice Mick Luckhurst? And the terrible-just-terrible 'Nasty Boys' (was that their moniker?). LOL..

It's a game of chess on the field really.

I see from the NFL website that the billionaire owners have forced the millionaire players to accept their new terms and condiions thus ensuring that there will be a 2011 season after all.

Keeping track of the free agency moves over the next week or so is going to be fun!

I am sure the Redskins will try, but may dissapoint yet again, proving splashing money does not always work.

Real football starts soon, can't wait. Hoping for another 1985 but my beloved Bears don't appear capable of repeating that. In a division with the Packers, Vikings and an improving Detroit team it looks like being a long season.
