Intel 82810E screen resolution issue

Post by Bic Basher » Fri Feb 10, 2012 11:05 pm

Sadly had to buy another cheap as chips PC this week, but the graphics card appears to only support up to 1024x576 or does this because it doesn't like XP SP3. Not good with a widescreen monitor!

Any ideas or suggestions would be grateful.

You're basically stuffed: that chipset comes from the land before widescreen monitors and Windows XP and from SP2 onwards it seems driver support has been broken. Your best bet is actually to try and track down some older drivers, say the ones from SP1. Intel graphics drivers have a tendancy to be crap when they're first released and continue to be crap with each new version, so you shouldn't loose any stability.

Even if that does work, you'll be stuck in 4:3 - the best resolution at a sensible colour depth is 1280 x 1024 (1600 x 1200 is possible, but only if you want a NES-aping 256 colour pallette). If that won't do, hopefully you can add a graphics card? Given the age of the mobo I guess you're looking for a AGP or maybe even PCI, which should be fairly cheap to accquire.

Real life gets complicated at times, so I'm not capping much at the moment.

I'm sticking with 4:3 at 1024x768, it's fine and can't complain considering.
