Playing finalised DVD-RW's on my PC

Post by Bic Basher » Wed Apr 04, 2012 7:50 pm

Just wondering how I can get my new DVD rewriter to recognise finalised disks from my DVD recorder?

Normally most rewriter's will pick up the DVD disc without any problems recorded and finalised from a stand alone dvd recorder.
Doe's it show you have a disc in the rewriter !.
.

You do have some software installed to play dvd films ?.

No and yes.

When I use a -R, it shows and not for a RW.

What mode do you record the -RW discs VR Mode or V Mode ?.
In V mode you have to format and finalize the -RW disc manually as my DVD recorder formats the -RW discs to VR mode automatically.

If your using VR mode to record to the -RW discs, try to record in V mode to a -RW disc and see if that will work/sort out the problem.

Ill ask the obvious, is it a +RW or -RW you are using?

-RW Gaz. Discovered that it's virtually impossible to play them in any other machine.

Sadly I don't have a multi format recorder, so it's DVD-R's that I can only record and play on my PC. However I'm going down the Freeview dongle route for capping hopefully from next week.

That's weird would have thought you could record to the -rw disc's in video mode(v mode), if you recorder supported that mode of recording.

Any way hope the freeview dongle makes it easier for you to do stills.

I some times record the webfeeds from some channels and do stills that way, it saves having to use any hard ware or dvd disc's.

Thanks, I also do some webfeed capping, but I don't like the low quality resolution you get on some of the streams.

I'm pretty sure I use video mode on the RW's, which give 2 hours recording.

Yep some of the web streams can be really poor quality because of the low band width, some times when i record bid up or speed auction it records in low quality making the vid totally useless for doing caps/stills.

That's weird about video mode, i used that with -RW discs and never had any problems watching the video clips on the PC or my old dvd player or the dvd drives in my computer.

Oh well, it's sorted now. I have a Freeview USB dongle which works fine for capping and recording to my hard drive.

I believe that I may have solved the problem.

My -RW recordings are in VR mode rather than video mode, alas even after finalising, the DVD rewriter still can't read the disks.

DVD players are strange beasts, Ive been trying to access backup DVD's that were recorded on my previous multi format rewriter and the new one, which is also supposed to handle all formats, is having issues.

that's a pain in the but then it should have worked, guess the re-writer in your pc isn't quiet compatible with the discs recorded on the stand alone dvd writer.

not done any capping for a while got a relative in hospital, they had a heart attack so no caps from me for a while until there better, hardly watched sky the last few weeks, hope i vie not missed to much with the babes on the shopping channels..

have you tried iso buster prog to see if you can see whats on the dvd and to then rip the vob files to you harddrive. ?.
