Old First Person Shooters

Post by arfur » Thu Feb 10, 2011 9:35 pm

Can anyone recommend any old (I mean around 2000-2004ish) FPS for my old PC?

I can just about run GTA: San Andreas at the lowest settings. I've played both Deus:Ex games (again, I can just about run Invisible War), and both Soldier Of Fortune Games. I've also played Medal Of Honour and some rubbish one called Armed And Dangerous.

Any suggestions, guys?

Thanks guys. I've got most of the Half-Life ones, and bloody good they are as well.

I'm especially fond of Duke Nukem 3D - it was the first game I had for my PC back in 1996. And due to the wonders of programming, I can still play it today!

Duke Nukem Manhattan Edition is excellent.

All the older Duke Nukems can be found in hi-res as there is a download avaialable to run them on modern PCs.

Does anyone know the name of the game that 'starred' an alien worker (with long arms) who was trying to escape from the factory he was stuck in? It's a 3D platform type of game...???

Did he make fart sounds and say follow me ?, if it is ,it could be the oddworld series with abe , a couple of the games was called Oddworld: Abe's Exoddus and another called Abe's Oddysee .

The Oddboxx, a collection of four games for the PC: Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee, Oddworld: Abe's Exoddus, Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee and Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath. The latter two titles are being ported to the PC for the first time

I've played the 3D GTA games in the wrong order. The first one I played was Vice City, followed by San Andreas. I still haven't finished GTA3 - I can't get over the fact there's no in-game map. I rely on that!

I got a new PC a few weeks ago (my old, self-made one died on me), and now can run more impressive games.

The Half-Life games look great now - I've just started playing Left 4 Dead, and what a laugh it is. You can't beat zombies! ;)

I wanted to get GTA 4 (or IV), but I've heard it's a pile of troublesome cack for the PC. Has anyone on here experienced the PC version?

Thanks in advance. :D

I've got it for PC. With a mouse and keyboard it can be a bit of a pain to control (Resident Evil 5 also springs to mind) but if you get a Xbox 360 Controller for Windows then its as easy as pie to move. Also be aware that GTA IV is Xbox Live enabled. So if you dont have a Xbox 360 account you will have to make one to play the game.

Thanks for the info. I think I'll give it a miss and have fun with the older ones. ;)

Think i will have to dig out the old Silent Hill games and the odd resident evil games i vie got for the PC, not played them for a while.

Having go at playing Tomb Raider anniversary and just brought Tomb Raider Underworld to see what that is like.

I am pretty bad at playing Tomb Raider anniversary  cannot get used to using the grappling hook they added to game, not played any games for quiet while.
