I can't see the pic, Imagebam being shite, if you mean they are out of whack then its the aspect ratio settings that need changing, you need it to be 16:9, not 4:3. In the preferences, under the video tab, put 16:9 in the 'force aspect ratio' box.

Basically the caps come out 544x576 no matter what i put in under the settings Only workaround ive had so far is to use a separate program to resize to my usual 1980 x 1080.Ive tried what u said above but the caps remain 544x576.I think i ll continue to do it this way for now and mess about with it some other time.i think i had this issue before and managed to fix it.Just cant remember how right now lol

When you have a video playing, select video tab at top and change aspect ratio there, also.

I have editing software that see's my recorded videos as 4:3 ratio, when they are 16:9 widescreen, so I have to tell it what it is.

Give Media Player Classic a try, many say it's much better than VLC.

Also look here for a solution, seems its a bug.https://forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.php?t=125836" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

That was why I gave up making video clips, couldn't persuade my video editor that the input was 16:9.
I now use Media Player Classic, once you get used to the different hotkeys it's very usable

The simplest way of solving this issue is to download Irfanview, then open the jpg file. Click on image, then Resize/Resample, then put in 1024x576. Remember to untick Preserve Aspect Ratio. It'll then be correct size and aspect ratio.

In the future, process your video first! It'll make your caps look a lot better, even in VLC. There are numerous software packages which allow you to do this, such as TEncoder which once you put in the correct settings (1024x576 for Sky News SD) and most important deinterlacing, it'll allow you to cap above the 544x576 that it renders at on Freeview. Handbrake is another alternative or MC-TV converter, but the latter ruins the audio.

As for Wicorman's video clips issue, try VSDC Video Editor which is 100% freeware and works like a professional video editor or Freemake Video Converter. With Freemake, remember to untick the additional software it offers, but is a very simple way of editing videos.

SOMEIMAGE IS NO LONGER OPERATING. PLEASE DON'T ASK ME TO RE-UPLOAD CAPS AS I DON'T HAVE THEM.

VIDEO LINKS HOSTED ON MEDIAFIRE STILL WORK.

With Irfan/XNview you can set it to batch convert, so you do a large number of caps at once, to save time.

I am having the same issues now I have upgraded to the latest version of VLC - why did I do it!!

All caps are now 4:3 and whilst I can convert them in batch mode it does waste time/effort when it worked fine before I "upgraded".

Thanks for the pointer to the general forum - obviously this is a deficiency that is known about. I looked through the discussion on the VLC board itself and found this not helpful comment
"Video snapshot format aspect ratio (?) -- Disagree. Is a seldom used function -- User: DJ." Perhaps that is why it does not work as they think it does not matter!

Will have to find another player; like Media Player Classic.
