Call me a glutton for punishment, but for some strange reason, I decided to watch Daybreak this morning. What a mistake, Jones and Kelly as two ventriloquist dummies, without the ventriloquist. The viewing figures should prove the death knoll of this drivel, disguised as news. Backto the safe haven of BBC1 tomorrow.

It really is trite, what makes me laugh is that they thought this would grab viewers.

Laura looks superb. But the rest is dreadful.
Aled jones is stiffer than a shop manniquin and people are bored with whatever lorraine kelly brings to anything. I noticed in her bland column in The Sun she thanked people for all the feedback. If it had been positive she'd have mentioned that.

Funny thing is that Dad has had to darken the picture if we view Daybreak

I have just joined this group and I would like to make a comment about Daybreak. I find Matt & Renvir cold in the mornings, no atmosphere where as Lorraine & Aled warm & friendly.

Compared to choirboy & jolly idiot, obviously, due to them being professional & the former being frumpy twee goons.

The GMTV format stinks. It always did. The problem is that ITV have spent insane amounts of money delivering basically the same dross, whilst taking the time to skim off all the vaguely not-crap parts to leave a suggary slurry fronted by a useless pair for the main show. Bizarrely, ITV's execs only ever get the presenter choices right when they're trying to run their breakfast TV offering into the ground.

Granted, I'm not exactly their target market.

I see it did not take long before the Hollywood showbiz nonsense crept back into the "news" hour.

A shining example of how it could be on this Fridays show.Kate talking fashion with a stylishly dressed woman in place of the usual "stylist". Now,if they could just bring in say Martel Maxwell as the Showbiz reporter in place of the current eyesore..... .

They've changed the format of the newshour now. For some reason it opened with Helen walking over to the news podium to deliver an opening bulletin. Not clear why they'd do that. Slightly better when John threw to Helen after the headlines at 06:30 though.

Once again the subs are doing a better job at the main show that the 'talent'. I think this week is John Stapleton and Helen Fospero for the newshour, Matt Barbet and Kate Garraway for the main show with Natalie Anderson covering celebrity nonsense. Not forgetting the delightful weather pixie, of course.

It just confirms what I have always believed, that ITV are clueless regarding early morning news & entertainment.

Given that ITV have axed the early morning news (05:30) and are increasingly marginalising the actual news in the 06:00 - 06:59 bit of GMTV, I'm inclined to agree with you. They seem to be pushing the celebrity tosh more and more. I believe that they've sidelined Kermode, which would explain this shift.

Oh well, more viewers for other channels, I guess.

Once again Martel Maxwell has been sidelined for a soap actress in the showbiz dross segment.

True, but it keeps Richard Arnold off-screen.
