title - Daybreak

Post by magnet »

--> http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/ar ... -flop.html :roll:

Somewhat inevitable really. ITV deliver a carbon copy of GMTV (with a nice purple bow on it), then blane the presenters when it all goes tits up.

Hope this doesn't mean Lucy V, Kirsty & Lucy W are off as well. :?:

What seemed most unattractive about DB was Chiles' determined oafishness [he seemed quite intelligent when he worked at Radio Four and BBC2] and CB's incessant, inane, braying laughter; you'd've thought they could've been persuaded to behave like adults ....
At the time it seemed a bit rash for Lucy V to have left Sky for a format pre-established as doomed: silly gal...
You have to assume the new bosses will maintain some populist crumpet level, though, hopefully with decent undesked leggage. :)

Lucy was indeed daft, she had survived the weather girl cull at Sky and was obviously a channel favourite, she quickly lost her weather wall on Daybreak and now gets shunted about all over the place.

Personally, the best Ive seen Daybreak was the other week with Dan and Lucy Watson presenting, but maybe they will keep changing the presenters round.

I thought Chiles & Bleakley were ok on the One Show, but it just never worked on Daybreak. Maybe they've been trialling a few new faces of late, e.g. Sam Mann (works for me). I wonder if Kate Garraway & Lorraine Kelly will survive the cull.

It was in the Mail last week that Garraway was as good as gone

Not surprised, she has been rather lack lustre of late, that being said, I thought she was pretty lack lustre when she was an occasional stand in for Anne Dawson on Central South some 15 or so years ago.
Crosby, Smith, Nasir & Castle (could be a band in there somewhere) must be smirking quietly.
No doubt Kelly will survive, she's turned into some kind of female Cliff Richard figure, a much loved national treasure (apparently). She does seem to have been on breakfast tv since before Pontius was a pilot.

Good point. I know some felt Lucy struggled a little with the fully live format, but I reckon she'd be brilliant if given time to settle in.

I saw a mis Tweet on Twitter from a newsreader(female) to a male newsreader asking if he got the job and could she call him Mr Daybreak now, no doubt it should have been a direct message, and so a private one.

The guy in question, Matt Barbet from 5 News.

Its confirmed, Lorraine will be joined by Aled Jones as the new presenters of the Daybreak replacement. No Lobb, Garraway, Fospero, Watson, Verasamy, Elvis or Obama!

*checks date* - no it's not 1 April. Oh.

I take it ITV will be painting their new studio a suitably drab shade of beige?

Saves me a recording I suppose.

The current Daybroke presenters accidentally announce their replacements already!

Seems the ITV execs are unaware of the feedback; on the bright side it will save on battery life in the remote - no more flicking between channels, BBC Breakfast all the way.

She did, but then the Daybreak offer came in.

You just have to wonder what planet, the powers that be, on ITV are on. Regardless of the program name, its still the same old failing format, an hour of serious news , followed by two and half hours of nonsense. The games the same, but with different faces. Perhaps one day the penny will drop.

Right then, for the sake of clarity:

Newshour - Matt Barbett and Ranvir Singh (presumably one of them will then read the news bulletins in the show)
Main show - Lorraine Kelly and Aled Jones (assuming Lorraine turns up occasionally)
Celebity tosh - Richard Arnold (FFFS)
Weather - Laura Tobin (TBC, but looks very likely)
Others: Kate Garraway & Gethin Jones (probably Friday cover)

So it seems that the format will be similar to GMTV - news hour so that the main presenters can have an extra hour in bed, followed by a couple of hours of tripe with news at the top of the hour and local news at 06:07, 07:07 and 08:07. The logo is out as well.

Do ITV seriously think that we can't reckognise a carbon copy of GMTV when we see it?!
