Current (by Surfer): Planned Maintenance 25th January 2200

Hi, we are facing some Maintenance work on the 25th of January at arrround 10pm. As allways: there might be some downtimes and/or slow periods arround that time.
See you on the other side ;)
Regards
Surfer

As you know the forum has been offline since Thursday night, this was due to a major problem at the hosts server centre, they have been working 24hrs a day since then to correct the issue and have finally managed to get us back online.

Apologies to all but there was nothing we could do about it but wait.

Thanks for keeping us posted elsewhere about the situation. I think the board was fortunate that it happened at the quietest time of the year for posts.

Its running a bit slow at the moment, so bare with it as I guess they need to tweak things, having just concentrated on getting it back online.

Thanks for the updates Gaz, only goes to show how much you miss things you take for granted when they're not around anymore. There's a faintly Dickensian message in there somewhere!

You do take for granted whats there every day, thats a fact. I guess it was the right time of year for it to happen, while we were all busy at Xmas.

Thanx for keeping everyone informed - it was reassuring that things were being done as quickly as possible to get the forum back on line

Hey guys, quick "welcome back everyone" from my side aswell. Like gaz said, it was a hardware problem in the server center and there was nothing we could do about it, just sit and wait.
I hope you all had a nice Xmas with your families!

Nice to have it back. Connectivity still very poor though, I'm having to try a few times to get connected. That was a problem in the last few weeks before the failure too.

yeah, i notice the server slowing down slowly and then going offline, which was the same prior to the big downtime, so i guess that they still ahve some issues

We had the same problem with our remote access server at work just before the holidays. I wonder how the home workers are faring...

I don't care, mind you, I just wonder...

I have to say its now slow for me, no problems logging in but there is a delay from clicking on stuff and it opening up. Earlier it was quick. Hosting company want support tickets raised if we have any issues, so may be worth a punt.

Just to say it is quicker for me now than it was before with the christmas theme.I thought it was the graphics causing it to go slow for me with my 9 year old PC.

Can anyone who had a problem earlier tell me if they are still having the same issues? I was finding it very slow earlier on from mid afternoon, through the evening, but now its as fast a [email protected] Is anyone else finding this?

I tried to reply but kept getting a 404 error...

When I get connected, it's fast, but no faster than other websites. far better than it was before Christmas though.

When I get connected...

Christ, Im not getting anything like that! It seems everyone gets something different, I get no errors, just a slow forum, most the time. It looks like Surfer has taken the ads down, so its not the ads, even the new one, Ive taken down the Xmas theme, so its not that. The blog is really slow for me, when I click on my bookmark for it, it takes about 20 seconds for the page to open.

maybe it's my connection. During the summer I had massive problems with my broadband (made all the worse by my being on Demon via BT, and them playing ping pong with the problem). It's settled down now though, and I don't have the same problem with any of my other regular sites.

I have been literally laughing out loud about this. This is EXACTLY what was happening with our SonicWall server at work. Pulses of slowdowns & connectivity problems, with fast responses between. CPU use was hitting 100% as soon as any number of users logged on...
